    I’m reminded of Russell Hoban’s “Riddley Walker,” in which a post-apocalyptic culture’s entire worldview derives from a nursery rhyme/puppet show/catechism explicated layer upon layer. It’s a bizarre and disturbing example of how language shapes consciousness.

      And I’m now reminded of the premise for Galaxy Quest, where aliens take broadcasts of a Star Trek-like space opera as though they were “historical documents.” So there.
