  1. This sort of comment usually works better when it’s said ABOUT someone rather than BY someone. “He meant well,” or “Her heart was in the right place,” demonstrates a generosity of spirit and compassion. Unless, of course, the offender was just way out of line and intentionally hurtful.

  2. That’s a good point. That’s a good topic too — Things Better Attributed Than Claimed. “Meaning well”isn’t the only thing on that list.
