I don’t exactly long to hear that, because what if they’re arachnids? Or Vogons? Or slavers from space? Or have a “To Serve Man” cookbook?
But I think that finding arsenic-processing bacteria in Mono Lake is one more step toward We Really Are Not Alone So We’d Better Behave. I find that very exciting and comforting at the same time. We may screw up and create an environment we can’t adapt to… but life will prevail.
Well, to answer your first question, “I would expect my long-awaited glee to become shredded shrieks of distress. But the first few seconds would still be great.
