Commerce of Joy

“HERE ARE YOUR PICTURES,” SAID the woman at the scanning shop. She handed me a package containing photos of my partner as a little girl — photos we can now send / have sent to others who didn’t expect them.

“Thank you,” I said. “This put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces.”

Her own face lit up. “Really! Thank you.”

That we can glimpse the point beyond the dollar, even where the dollar seems to be the point, thank You.

I had a little moment like that today; I got some help with my hair from a nice lady in the restroom before I went in to a job interview. Then in turn I helped another applicant – who was nervous – answer a question and helped set her at ease about the application process. We are all on this little boat together.
